Omar Abdullah takes a ride on the newly launched Vande Bharat Express on Thursday.

Omar Abdullah on Thursday took a ride on the newly launched Vande Bharat Express (VB), which is becoming a massive hit among travellers for its design, safety, comfort and overall facilities.

The train passes through some of the best locations, engineering marvels created with decades of hard work and passion by the Indian railways.

Abdullah was accompanied by his advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani.

“Omar started his Vande Bharat Express journey from Nowgam railway station in Srinagar early morning,” an official said. "He will travel to Jammu.”

This comes just nine days after his father and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah travelled on the same train to Katra.

Vande Bharat instantly became a hit, as it allowed common people, tourists and VIPS to be part of the safest yet thrilling experiences that it entails in its route to Srinagar from Katra and vice versa.

The VB train service was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, while it officially began services on June 7. The two semi-high-speed trains now connect the Kashmir Valley to Jammu’s Katra town via Banihal, operating six days a week, with Wednesday as the only non-operational day. Most of the train’s services are already fully booked, reflecting the public enthusiasm for this long-awaited project.

At the train’s official launch event on June 6, Omar Abdullah had lauded the development as a historic milestone. Omar, while congratulating the engineers and people associated with the project, said, “Even during British rule, plans were envisioned — such as the proposed Uri and Jhelum railway lines — but they remained unfulfilled. What the British could not achieve, you (Narendra Modi) have made a reality. You have connected Kashmir with the rest of India and, through it, to the wider world. This is a historic accomplishment.”
