Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said his government would ensure the swift allotment of land to flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said priority was being given to landless and worst-affected families whose houses suffered irreversible damage during the August–September floods.

Addressing the J&K Assembly on flood relief measures, Omar said, “There is no need for a fresh policy for flood-hit families. As far as landless people are concerned, the paperwork has been completed, and they will receive land under the PMAY pattern.”

He added that losses in Jammu have been assessed by a central team and the Union Agriculture Minister, confirming that the damages are comparable to those caused by the 2014 Kashmir floods.

“The government has already communicated with the Centre regarding the relief package, and once it is received, it will be disbursed without discrimination,” Omar added.

Meanwhile, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday highlighted the issue of daily wagers who have worked for decades in government offices without regularisation.

In a post on X, Mehbooba wrote, “As the J&K Assembly reconvenes, one of the most pressing issues that requires immediate attention is the plight of nearly one lakh daily wagers. These workers, often from the most marginalised sections of society, have been the backbone of many departments, ensuring their smooth functioning.”

“It is crucial that all MLAs, along with the ruling party, unite to address this issue and ensure the regularisation of these workers so they can receive the dignity and job security they rightfully deserve,” she added.

The remaining seven days of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session are expected to be stormy, with debates over cross-voting, job policy, free electricity, water supply, and horticulture issues likely to dominate proceedings.
