One person was killed after a truck met with an accident and plunged into a deep gorge at the Nachlana area of Banihal, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Initial reports said the truck lost control and fell into the deep gorge, killing one person on the spot. Shortly after the incident, rescue teams and police rushed to the area and launched a rescue and retrieval operation.
Further reports suggest the truck belonged to Haryana and was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when it skidded off the road and fell down. Officials later confirmed that the truck was loaded with paint and hardware material.
Police and Army teams quickly rushed to the spot along with Himalayan QRT Ramsoo and volunteers of NGO Banihal Volunteers, who launched a rescue operation.
Rescuers retrieved the driver from the nearly destroyed truck and shifted him to the nearby hospital of Army’s 23 Rashtriya Rifles, where Army doctors declared him brought dead.
The identity of the deceased was not officially confirmed; however, police have taken cognisance of the incident and launched an investigation.
