At least one person was killed and another suffered serious injuries after a Tata Mobile load carrier collided with a parked truck at Kharpora Chowk on NH-44 in the Banihal area of Ramban district on Thursday morning, officials said.
The impact of the collision was so intense that the driver of the vehicle died on the spot.
Police officials stated that the accident took place around 6:30 am on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway when the Tata Mobile, which was on its way to Jammu from Kashmir, reportedly hit a truck parked on the roadside from behind.
Soon after the accident, police officials, along with volunteers, rushed the driver and the conductor to a nearby district hospital in Banihal, where doctors declared one person brought dead, while the conductor is undergoing treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Bashir Ahmed Kumhar, son of Mohammad Ismail, a resident of Pulwama district. Shortly after the accident, teams from the Banihal police and an NHAI ambulance rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Police said a case has been registered and further investigation into the incident is underway.
