One worker was killed and five injured in an explosion on Sunday at a firecracker-making unit close to here, the police said. In this regard, a factory foreman was arrested, they said. The explosion at the fireworks unit in the village of Keelathayilpatti is believed to have occurred due to "friction" between chemicals during production, a police official said.
One labourer around 50 years old was found dead and five others were injured, the official mentioned, adding that the injured were taken to a hospital immediately.
Being shocked, Chief Minister MK Stalin sent his condolence and sympathy to the family of the victim and directed officials to provide special attention to the injured workers.

In a formal statement, the CM revealed ₹4 lakh solatium to the deceased worker's family. In addition, he announced a help of ₹1 lakh to a severely injured worker and ₹50,000 each to others with non-grievous injuries.
The victim worker is M Balagurusamy, who hailed from Thiruthangal in Sivakasi.
