At least one person was killed and two others injured after a truck met with an accident in the Kalai area of Poonch district on Saturday morning, officials said. Officials said that a loaded truck en route to Poonch from Jammu lost control near the Kalai area, causing the vehicle to roll down a gorge. One person was killed, while two others suffered injuries, they said.
The deceased was identified as Maksood Ahmad, while the injured have been identified as Sajad Ahmad (22), son of Mohd Afzal, resident of Sarikhawaja, and Zahoor Ahmad (21), son of Mohd Ashraf, resident of Fatapur.
The two injured were shifted to the district hospital in Poonch for medical treatment. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further proceedings.
In a similar accident last month, at least four people were injured after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident at Chatroo near the police post area of Mandi in the Poonch district.
Road accidents in J&K showed a declining trend, though they remained a significant concern. According to official data released in February 2026, the total number of road accidents in the Union Territory fell to 5,287 in 2025.
