A Jammu and Kashmir Police special operations group member was killed while another was injured in a road accident in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, officials said on Friday.

The accident, according to eyewitnesses, took place at the Bailey bridge in the Chadoora area in the early morning hours.

An official confirmed that the two SOG personnel were travelling in an official vehicle when it hit the steel girder of the bridge, leaving the two personnel seriously injured.

Shortly after the accident, the duo was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared one of them brought dead on arrival, while another was undergoing medical treatment, he said.

The deceased was later identified as Tariq Ahmad, a resident of Hanjura, and the injured as Riyaz Ahmed. Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated a formal investigation.
