Former Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta has come under sharp scrutiny after a senior advocate of the Jharkhand High Court submitted an online application requesting that an FIR be lodged against him.
The complaint, filed by advocate Rajeev Kumar, levels multiple allegations of corruption, criminal collusion, and misuse of authority.
In his detailed submission, Rajeev Kumar introduced himself as a lawyer dedicated to pursuing matters of public interest. He stated that, as a responsible citizen, he felt compelled to draw the attention of authorities to the concerns he has raised.
According to Kumar, information obtained from media reports and other sources suggests that during his tenure, former DGP Gupta allegedly worked in collaboration with notorious criminal Sujit Sinha and others to form an organization named Koyalanchal Shanti Samiti (KSS).
This group, he claimed, was used as a front to extort crores of rupees from coal traders, contractors, transporters, doctors, business owners, and various professionals across the state.
The complaint also references allegations made earlier by Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi. Marandi had publicly accused Gupta of operating, even while serving as DGP, what he described as one of the state’s biggest criminal networks.
He further alleged that Gupta orchestrated a staged encounter of jailed criminal Aman Sahu under the influence of another crime figure.
Marandi had also claimed during a press conference that the KSS was supplied with weapons originating from Pakistan—a revelation he described as a serious threat not only to Jharkhand but to national security.
Kumar’s application goes on to allege that Gupta, while heading the CID and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), abused his official position by using select DSPs and officers—including Mohammed Parvez Alam, Mohammed Nehal, and Animesh Naithani—to file fabricated cases against his adversaries.
He also accused the former DGP of issuing notices to government officials and engineers on the basis of false complaints, with the intention of extorting money. Several named personnel of the CID and ACB were mentioned as individuals who allegedly assisted in these activities.
The advocate appealed to authorities to register an FIR under appropriate legal provisions and initiate a thorough investigation into what he described as grave acts of corruption and criminal misconduct.
He stated that such action is crucial for the integrity of governance in Jharkhand and for the broader interest of national security.
