Operation Sheruwali entered its 29th day on Saturday as security forces continued intensive operations in the rugged terrain and dense forests of the Gambhir Mughlan area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.
Cordon and search operations have been intensified in the surrounding areas, as security forces believe that militants who escaped earlier encounters are still hiding in the region.
The Dorimal forest area, known for its steep slopes and thick vegetation, is posing significant challenges to the troops. Despite the difficult conditions, security personnel remain on high alert and are using surveillance and area-domination tactics to track any suspicious movement.
Security forces engaged the militants on two separate occasions, but both times the ultras managed to slip away under the cover of the dense forest and thick vegetation.
According to officials, two to three militants, who may have infiltrated recently, are believed to be hiding in the area.
Operation Sheruwali is a large-scale multi-agency anti-militancy operation launched in late May to locate and neutralise armed infiltrators in the rugged mountainous terrain of the Dorimal-Gambhir Mughlan sector.
While the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved significantly over the past five to six years, sporadic incidents of violence, such as the recent Pahalgam terror attack, continue to pose challenges.
