In a swift and targeted military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Air Force launched Operation Sindoor, striking nine terrorist launchpads in Pakistan between 1:05 am and 1:30 am on Tuesday. Official sources confirmed that over 100 terrorists were neutralised in the operation.

Following the air strikes, a high alert has been declared across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh. Civilian and administrative responses have intensified as tensions escalate.

BSF suspends public access to beating retreat ceremony

The beating retreat ceremony at the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar has been closed down for public until further notice, a Border Security Force (BSF) official stated this on Wednesday. This comes after India’s missile strikes on terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

While the ceremonial flag-lowering event will continue to take place at the zero line as scheduled, officials confirmed it will now be held behind closed gates with no visitors allowed.

Following the Pahalgam attack, the BSF had already scaled down the public aspects of the retreat ceremony, citing heightened security concerns.

Key Developments:

Punjab: Schools in five border districts—Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Ferozepur—have been closed until further notice. The Kartarpur Corridor has also been temporarily shut down. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal cancelled their scheduled visits to Nawanshahr and Jalandhar. Amritsar Airport has cancelled all 22 scheduled flights and will remain shut until 5:30 PM on May 10.

Chandigarh: All flight operations at Chandigarh Airport have been suspended due to changes in airspace security conditions.

Haryana: A state of high alert has been declared in Ambala, with a ban on drone operations. Railway Protection Force (RPF) is conducting intensive security checks at Ambala Cantt station. The Haryana Congress has suspended its ‘Save the Constitution’ rally series events.

Himachal Pradesh: CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has cancelled his tour and called a high-level security meeting in Shimla. Security has been tightened across key tourist destinations in the state.

The air strikes come in direct retaliation for the brutal killing of 26 civilians (25 Indians and one Nepali national) by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Pahalgam.
