The Punjab Congress on Sunday came down hard on the AAP government, demanding answers on sensitive issues like sacrilege and drug abuse, while criticising the suspension of MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh.
Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring agreed that while the suspension may be an internal matter for AAP, it does not absolve the government of its responsibility to respond to the serious questions raised by the MLA.
Warring said, “Though the suspension of MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh is an internal matter of AAP, in no way does it mean that the government does not owe answers to questions he has raised.”
“The issues of sacrilege and drugs remain unresolved. The AAP government’s question hour has begun and everyone knows it has no answers,” he said. “It may suspend its MLA from the party, but what about the three crore Punjabis who are asking the same questions that Kunwar Vijay Pratap has been asking?” asked Warring.
Congress Legislature Party leader Partap Singh Bajwa also spoke in support of the suspended MLA, saying, “When MLA Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh had joined AAP, Arvind Kejriwal had made big promises on bringing the culprits of Bargari to justice and wipe out the drug mafia. But Kunwar Vijay Pratap — one of @AAPPunjab’s few honest, courageous MLAs has been suspended for speaking the truth!”
Bajwa said that the MLA's only “fault” was highlighting the failures of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government. He described the suspension as a “badge of honour” for Kunwar Vijay Pratap, praising him for standing up for truth and the people of Punjab.
