Uttarakhand continues to face the fury of the monsoon, with persistent rain causing rivers and streams to overflow. The Alaknanda River has crossed the danger mark, and landslides have blocked traffic in many areas. So far, over 124 roads remain shut, and efforts are on to clear them.
The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning across the state. An orange alert is in place for Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar. Other districts are also expected to receive heavy rainfall. Disaster response teams like the NDRF and SDRF are on high alert, especially in high-risk zones.
Char Dham Yatra disrupted
The ongoing Char Dham Yatra has been disrupted due to landslides and bad weather. Roads leading to the holy shrines have been closed, and pilgrims are being asked to stay put at safe locations until conditions improve.
Two swept away in the Ganga
A heartbreaking incident took place near Brahmpuri Ram Tapasthali Ghat in Rishikesh, where a mother and daughter from Madhya Pradesh were swept away by the strong current of the Ganga around 6:30 am while bathing. Locals immediately informed the police, and the SDRF launched a search operation. The two are still missing.
In Dehradun, a 100-year-old Peepal tree partly collapsed at the entrance of the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple on Wednesday. A nearby prasad shop was badly damaged, injuring the shopkeeper. A scooter and a car were also crushed. Police and temple staff cleared the area to avoid further accidents.
