A three-day orientation programme for the newly elected MLAs of Jammu and Kashmir begins on Thursday. The orientation is being held at the central hall of the J&K Assembly in Jammu.
The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, along with the newly elected members of the Legislative Assembly and the other leaders of the ruling dispensation (NC), were also present at the occasion.
Talking to reporters, Omar said, "It is (the programme) for the first time for all of us. Today, the order and arrangement are different. So to understand how to work, the powers of the Assembly, and what will be procedures, an orientation programme was organised by the speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir."
He added that the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha (Harivansh) had also come to participate in the programme and expressed hope that we would "benefit from his experience".
"In the next session, the MLAs will represent the people of their concerned constituencies in a better way," he added.
The first session of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly was held on November 8, 2024.
