'Original is always original': BRS takes a dig at Kavitha's TRS

While the post avoided naming names, the timing was unmistakable. Kavitha, the daughter of the BRS supremo, had only just launched her own party, reviving the "Telangana Rashtra Sena" (TRS) moniker.

The K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS didn’t mince words this Saturday, taking a subtle yet pointed dig at K Kavitha’s decision to name her new political outfit the TRS. Taking to X, the BRS shared side-by-side photos of authentic toothpaste and water brands alongside their knock-off counterparts, captioned with the stinging reminder that "original is always original".

While the post avoided naming names, the timing was unmistakable. Kavitha, the daughter of the BRS supremo, had only just launched her own party, reviving the "Telangana Rashtra Sena" (TRS) moniker. It’s a move dripping with irony, given that her father famously ditched the "Telangana Rashtra Samithi" (the original TRS) back in 2022 to rebrand as the BRS for a crack at national politics. During her launch, Kavitha didn't hold back, tearing into the Congress, the BJP, and her father’s own party, even going as far as to describe KCR as a "changed man" who has become "soulless".

The political theatre didn't end there. Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy took major offence at Kavitha labelling Chief Minister Revanth Reddy a "heartless Hitler". He was quick to list the current government’s wins, from massive health funding under the CM Relief Fund to the rollout of Integrated Residential Schools. He also took a swipe at Kavitha’s new "mother of the state" persona, asking where this maternal concern was during the ten years of BRS "misrule".

He, further, added: "Why did you stay silent then?". Did you simply forget about the people until now?"

Meanwhile, the BJP has smells a rat. State spokesperson NV. Subhash dismissed the "sudden resurrection" of the TRS name as a cynical attempt to play on regional emotions. He suggested the whole fallout — Kavitha’s expulsion and her new party — might be a "pre-scripted narrative" designed to reclaim the old TRS legacy and hoodwink the public. According to Subhash, it’s less of a genuine political alternative and more of a tactical move to "confuse the electorate" before they head to the polls.
