A 12-year-old girl was subjected to unspeakable brutality before being murdered in the Vishnugarh area of Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district, in an incident that has drawn haunting parallels to the 2012 Nirbhaya case.

The victim, a resident of Kusumbha village, had gone to watch a local religious procession on Tuesday night but failed to return home.

Following an overnight search by distraught family members and villagers, her body was discovered on Wednesday morning hidden behind a bamboo thicket near a local school, bearing signs of extreme physical torture and sexual assault.

The sheer depravity of the crime has left the local community in a state of shock and fury. According to local reports and family allegations, the victim was subjected to a gang-rape during which her teeth were broken and her body mutilated to conceal her identity.

Investigators found a wooden object inserted into the victim's private parts, highlighting a level of savagery that has triggered urgent demands for justice. The crime scene was heavily stained with blood, suggesting a violent struggle before the minor was killed.

Hazaribagh police have launched a high-level investigation, deploying forensic experts and a dog squad to the site to gather DNA evidence. The victim’s body has been sent to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination to confirm the sequence of events.

The girl’s father, a migrant labourer working in Mumbai, has been informed of the tragedy. Meanwhile, as tensions simmer in the district, villagers have staged protests demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and the implementation of the death penalty.

Authorities maintain that multiple leads are being pursued to apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.

Meanwhile, the State BJP unit has come out strongly against the government for failing to maintain law and order in Jharkhand. State BJP president Aditya Sahu strongly condemning the incident and terming it a grave failure of law and order.

Sahu will visit Kusumbha village on March 27 at 11 am to meet the bereaved family and express his condolences. “The brutality inflicted on the 12-year-old innocent girl and her merciless murder is not just a crime, but a glaring example of the collapse of law and order and the insensitivity of the government,” he said.
