The flooding has also impacted around 401 hectares of crops, further aggravating the crisis.
Relief materials have been distributed to the worst-hit areas including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bisnupur, Noney, Churanchanpur, Senapati, and Kakching.
Tragically, three lives have been lost, nine people have sustained injuries, and one individual remains missing since the floods struck on May 29.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, in a social media update, added that breaches in river embankments occurred at 18 locations, with 17 of them successfully sealed. “Flooding in the surrounding areas has been successfully brought under control,” Singh affirmed.
The northeastern state has been battered by relentless rain and thunderstorms triggered by the cyclone over the past few days, exacerbating the flood situation.
In response to the severe flooding and breaches in embankments along riverbanks, the government declared a two-day public holiday for all state offices until May 31.
Citizens have been advised to remain indoors unless faced with an emergency, as per an official notification.
