Over 10,000 women police officers have been stationed along the Kanwar Yatra route across Uttar Pradesh, accounting for almost 15 per cent of the entire force, the state government stated in a release. These comprise 8,541 head constables and 1,486 sub-inspectors, it stated.
As per the statement, during a recent review meeting at the high level, officials told Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that an approximate six crore devotees, including roughly 60-70 lakh women, are likely to join the yatra. The chief minister, in response, ordered that a women-friendly security model be put in place for the safety of women pilgrims.
As part of the plan, female constables have been posted at every women's help booth to guide and advise devotees in sensitive cases.

Additionally, Shakti Help Booths, as a joint initiative with voluntary organisations of women, are being established in many districts to aid female pilgrims.
Female police officers have also been included as a must in quick response teams (QRTs), even during night duty, to provide prompt help in case of emergencies.
QRT patrolling has been stepped up on major routes, and women officers are keeping an eye on day-and-night control rooms and helplines in all 11 zones. Meerut zone, the hub of the yatra, has witnessed the maximum deployment with 3,200 women police personnel deployed across districts of Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Hapur and Ghaziabad.
Drone surveillance, CCTV monitoring and social media tracking are also being utilised to enhance security further. Over 150 women help desks have been established to deliver real-time support, the statement added.
