A fresh batch of over 1,000 Amarnath pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the Baltal base camp in the early morning hours on Monday under stringent security measures.
According to the Joint Police Control Room, the 26th batch departed at 2:49 am and consisted of 832 male pilgrims, 205 women, two children, 15 sadhus and two sadhvis.
The convoy movement on the Pahalgam axis remained suspended for the second consecutive week.
The latest convoy consisted of 46 vehicles, including 24 large buses, seven medium motor vehicles (MMVs) and 15 light motor vehicles (LMVs), escorted by security personnel.
With the departure of the fresh batch, the total number of pilgrims who have left Jammu for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra this year crossed 140,748, officials said on Monday morning.
Security forces personnel, along with Jammu and Kashmir Police, have been ensuring the smooth conduct of the Yatra ever since the first batch was flagged off on July 2.
Fortunately, no untoward incident has unfolded so far, and the Yatra has been going on smoothly on both tracks.
Except for rain-related disruptions, Yatris who performed darshan at the cave shrine praised the arrangements made by the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
