The Travancore Devaswom Board announced on Sunday that over 3,000 Lord Ayyappa devotees from around the world are expected to attend the upcoming Global Ayyappa Sangamam.
The event, which is being held to mark the temple body's platinum jubilee, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 10:30 am on September 20 in Pampa. The proposed gathering has already sparked reactions from various political parties and community organisations in the state.
Meanwhile, the board also announced that the Sabarimala temple will open for its monthly rituals for the Malayalam month of 'Kanni' on September 16. The sanctum sanctorum will be opened at 5 pm by the chief priest, Arun Kumar, in the presence of the head priest, Mahesh Mohanaru.
Devotees will be able to begin their pilgrimage at 5 am on September 17, the first day of 'Kanni'. The monthly pujas will conclude at 10 pm on September 21.
