Over 30,000 runners as New Delhi marathon gets underway

Former Tennis Player ⁠Rohan Bopanna flagged off the 11th edition of the Cognizant New Delhi Marathon.


The 11th edition of the New Delhi Marathon on Sunday is underway, drawing more than 30,000 participants, including national and international athletes.
 
Starting from the famous Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the event holds significant importance for the competing athletes this year, as it serves as a qualifying race for the Asian Games, providing Indian athletes with a crucial opportunity to secure their places for the upcoming continental games.
 
Top men runners, like Anish Thapa, A B Belliappa, Man Singh, and Akshay Saini, are expected to improve their previous best times during the ongoing full marathon of 42.195 km distance.
 
 From the women’s side, Bhagirathi Bisht, NirmabenThakorBharatjee, Ashwini Madan Jadhav, Disket Dolma, and Stanzin Dolkar are featuring in a much more competitive line-up.
 
 
The results will immensely depend on the front-runners’ energy through the exhaustive middle phase before the fierce final phase of the stretch.
 
With temperatures hovering below normal in Delhi on Sunday and cool conditions forecast throughout the day, the marathon is set for an intense competition, where the majority of athletes could improve upon their personal best performances.
 
According to some officials, the marathon is likely to see more than 30,000 runners across the full marathon, ten-kilometre, and five-kilometre races.
 
In the 2025 edition of the Delhi Marathon, Asian champion Man Singh won the men's race, while Bhagirathi Bisht clinched the women's title.
