AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has conducted a door-to-door campaign for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which is scheduled to begin on June 15 across Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana. The campaign was carried out in the Yakutpura constituency,  where he was also participating in inauguration and foundation-laying programmes. During the drive, he interacted directly with residents to explain the mechanics of the SIR process, stating that all eligible voters are required to fill out the enumeration form provided by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Owaisi urged citizens in Hyderabad to fully grasp the process and actively participate in the voter verification exercise in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.

Meanwhile, Odisha, another state where the SIR of electoral rolls is currently taking place, has adopted a ‘panchnama’ route to resolve various anomalies in voter mapping. Under this approach, the signatures of local residents may be taken to verify details and correct inconsistencies. Officials in Odisha have identified several specific anomalies during the revision. For instance, when mapping voters with their parents, cases have emerged where the age gap between the voter and the parent is less than 15 years, or where it exceeds 50 years. Similarly, when mapping individuals with their maternal or paternal grandparents, discrepancies include age gaps of less than 40 years. Additionally, instances have been found where more than six individuals are mapped to a single person listed in the historical 2002 SIR list. In all such scenarios, Odisha is utilising the panchnama method to verify the records.

During Phase II of the revision process, Uttar Pradesh and several other states took a different approach by choosing a documentation-based route to resolve these issues. In those regions, voters were asked to prove their relationship with the elector listed in the 2002 SIR list by producing any supporting documents, which did not necessarily have to be from the standard Election Commission of India (ECI) approved list. As the programme rolls out locally, it remains unclear which of these processes will ultimately be adopted by the authorities in Telangana.
