Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced candidates for seven assembly seats in the first phase of Jharkhand's upcoming elections. AIMIM will contest seats in Pakur, Mahagama, Ranchi, Jamshedpur West, Barkagaon, Chatra, and Garhwa.

The candidate list includes Haji Tanveer Alam for Pakur, Kamran Khan for Mahagama, Mehtab Alam for Ranchi, Babar Khan for Jamshedpur West, Subodh Paswan for Chatra, Shamim Ansari for Barkagaon, and Dr. MN Khan for Garhwa.

AIMIM’s national spokesperson Adil Hasan and state president Akhtarul Iman indicated the party may field additional candidates in the second phase of elections.

The constituencies AIMIM has targeted have a Muslim voter base ranging between 22 to 38 per cent. While Muslim voters in Jharkhand have historically shown limited support for AIMIM, the party hopes to gain greater backing from minority voters in this election cycle.

In the 2019 Jharkhand assembly elections, AIMIM fielded candidates in 16 seats but saw a modest performance.

The highest vote count for the party was in Dumri, with 24,132 votes, followed by Mohammad Ashraf Ansari’s 18,416 votes in Barkatha and Shishir Lakra’s 23,592 votes in Mandar.

The 81-member Jharkhand assembly election will take place in two phases, with voting scheduled for November 13 and November 20, and vote counting set for November 23.
