Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced that government agencies would start procuring paddy two weeks in advance from September 15 to prevent damage to crop due to high moisture level. The procurement process usually starts from October 1 every year. The moisture level in crops increases in October due to colder nights.
“With the advancing of the procurement season, the crop will start arriving in grain markets 15 days in advance. Earlier, farmers faced harassment during the procurement process due to high moisture levels, which also lead to their blackmailing,” he said.
Mann said he recently met Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi and asked him to increase the commission of commission agents. “If needed, the government would lead a delegation of arhtiyas to meet Joshi in Delhi,” he said.
