Punjab Police on Wednesday said they busted a Pakistan-backed terror module by arresting one person and recovering a remotely operated improvised explosive device (IED).
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the terror plan was foiled by the state special operations cell (SSOC) of Amritsar during an operation based on intelligence. He stated that a foreign-made pistol and ammunition were also seized.
“Initial investigations show that the accused was in touch with a Pakistan-based handler through encrypted platforms,” Yadav said in a post on X.
“The terror consignment was pushed across the border and later collected from a fixed location on the outskirts of the city,” he said.
“The IED was meant for targeted attacks in several states, including Punjab and Delhi,” he added. An FIR has been registered, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the entire terror network, he said.
