The Punjab Police on Sunday announced the busting of a weapon-smuggling module allegedly linked to Pakistan, arresting one person from Amritsar and recovering arms, ammunition, and cash.
The police also seized seven pistols, four live cartridges and Rs 1.50 lakh from the arrested accused.
"Acting on a tip-off, the Counter Intelligence Unit in Amritsar busts an illegal weapon smuggling module with links to Pakistan and arrests Abhishek Kumar from Amritsar, recovering 7 pistols (including 5 pistols of .30 bore and 2 Glock 9mm pistols), 4 live cartridges (.30 bore), and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash from his possession," Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav shared on his social media handle.
According to the DGP, the operation uncovered that Australia-based criminal Jassa, in collaboration with Pakistan-based smugglers, was orchestrating the smuggling of illegal arms and ammunition across the Indo-Pak border with the help of local associates Jodhbir Singh, alias Jodha, and Abhishek Kumar.
Preliminary investigations have also indicated that Abhishek Kumar and Jodhbir Singh were allegedly involved in hawala transactions, suggesting links to a larger criminal network.
An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar. Further investigations are ongoing to apprehend additional associates and unravel the full extent of the network.
