Pakistan Army has now opened a front in the Gurez sector in North Kashmir, which witnessed quiet for the past two weeks, with Uri reporting fresh ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir despite calls for de-escalation from the international community.

Officials said the Pakistani troops targeted Charunda and Hatlanga areas of the Uri sector in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. They also violated the ceasefire in the Bagtore area of the Gurez sector in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the officials said.

According to the officials, heavy shelling was going on at these places. However, there were no reports of any loss of life so far.

The residents in Gurez were asked to take shelter in the underground bunkers earlier to prevent civilian casualties.

So far, intense shelling has caused massive infrastructure damage in Uri, Kupwara, Rajouri, and Poonch, all of which have been targeted by the Pakistan armed forces since India carried out Operation Sindoor on May 6-7.

The destruction caused by the cross-border shelling has already killed 17 people, including an Army Jawan, while 43 others have sustained injuries.

Besides, the intense ongoing shelling has caused livestock damage critical for the people living in the border areas, with property damages that could require millions in reconstruction.

Additionally, the sequence of the border skirmishes suggests that Pakistani forces are picking vulnerable spots along the border to fire heavy artillery, with systematic attacks along the border areas following one another, leaving a massive trail of destruction behind.

Further details were awaited, they added.

On Friday, a woman was killed and two of her family members injured in heavy shelling by Pakistani troops from across the LoC in Baramulla and Kupwara districts.
