Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma.

Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday strongly condemned Pakistan’s persistent attempts to infiltrate militants into India, asserting that security forces are making relentless efforts to eliminate terrorism from the region.

His remarks came in the wake of an intense firefight between security forces and militants in Kathua on Sunday evening, where five to six terrorists were spotted near Hiranagar, close to the Indo-Pak border.

Speaking to the media, Sharma criticised Pakistan’s dual stance on terrorism, stating that while the country itself is grappling with internal terrorism, it continues to send militants into India through infiltration attempts.

He pointed out that security forces have been conducting a continuous search operation in Sanyal village of Hiranagar since the previous night and remain deployed in the area to neutralise any threats.

He remarked that Pakistan is effectively "digging its own grave" by engaging in such actions.

Sharma emphasised that security forces remain vigilant and are determined to eradicate terrorism at its roots. He warned that the more Pakistan attempts to send militants into India, the stronger the response from Indian forces will be to crush terrorism permanently.

Taking a swipe at certain political leaders, Sharma criticised the National Conference-led government for allegedly advocating dialogue with Pakistan despite ongoing militant infiltrations.

He expressed disappointment that some legislators continue to push for talks with Pakistan, indirectly supporting its actions through various means. He accused such political elements of emboldening Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, leading to an increase in security threats in the region.
