Pak troops fire at LoC posts again; Indian Army hits back

Pakistani forces opened unprovoked fire along the LoC for the second night in a row, prompting a measured response from Indian troops. The incident follows the Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 civilians, escalating tensions and triggering a diplomatic standoff between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire across the Line of Control (LoC) on Friday night, marking the second consecutive night of escalation along the volatile frontier, military sources confirmed on Saturday. Indian forces returned fire “appropriately” using small arms, the sources said.

The renewed exchange of gunfire follows Tuesday’s deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, pushing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad to a dangerous pitch.

“On the night of April 25 and 26, unprovoked small arms firings were carried out by various Pakistan Army post all across the LoC in Kashmir,” said a military source. “Indian troops responded appropriately with small arms,” the source added.

No casualties were reported from either side during the latest incident.

The Pakistani military has reportedly been placed on high alert following India’s stern declaration that it will track down and eliminate those responsible for the Pahalgam carnage.

In a strong diplomatic response, India on Wednesday unveiled a series of punitive measures targeting Islamabad. These include the suspension of the 65-year-old Indus Waters Treaty, the closure of the Attari land border, and the expulsion of Pakistani military attachés.

Additionally, all Pakistani nationals who had entered India via the Attari border have been instructed to exit the country by 1 May.

Pakistan retaliated on Thursday by closing its airspace to all Indian airlines and halting trade with New Delhi, including commercial activity routed through third countries. Islamabad also rejected India’s suspension of the water-sharing agreement, terming any disruption to the Indus Waters Treaty as an “act of war”.

Amid nationwide grief and rage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday vowed a relentless pursuit of the attackers and those who harbour them. “The killers would be pursued ‘to the ends of the earth’,” the Prime Minister declared. He further promised to “identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers”.
