Continuous rain in Haryana has caused severe waterlogging in several residential areas in the state.

As heavy rain continues to lash Tricity, the Panchkula administration  ordered the closure of all schools on Wednesday.

“In view of the ongoing heavy rainfall in Panchkula district and keeping in mind the safety of students, a holiday is hereby declared today, 03.09.2025 (Wednesday), for all government and private schools and Anganwadi centres in the district,” read a notification from the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The nonstop downpour has caused severe waterlogging, damaged public property, and led to major traffic jams on several key roads and junctions across the Tricity.

Meanwhile, continuous rain in Haryana has caused severe waterlogging in residential areas of Ambala, while parts of Karnal city also received light showers on Wednesday morning.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ambala will see a “generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers” on Wednesday. The forecast says “partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers” from September 4 to 6, “partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm” on September 7, and “generally cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm” on September 8.

For Karnal, the IMD has predicted a “generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers” for Wednesday and Thursday. The forecast for September 5 and 6 is “partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers”, followed by “partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm” on September 7, and “generally cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm” on September 8.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued red alerts for several districts across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, northern Punjab, northern Haryana, eastern Rajasthan, southwest Uttar Pradesh, northwest and eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.

The latest forcast warns of moderate to heavy spells of rain over the next three hours in these areas, raising risks of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging.
Districts under red alert in Jammu & Kashmir include Poonch, Mirpur, Rajouri, Reasi, Jammu, Ramban, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua, Doda, and Kishtwar. In Punjab, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Moga, Ludhiana, Barnala, and Sangrur are under alert. Himachal’s Mandi, Una, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, and Solan also face similar warnings, while in Haryana, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, and SAS Nagar are on red alert.

In Delhi, the Yamuna river crossed the danger level mark this morning. The warning mark is 204.5 metres, while the danger level is 205.33 metres. Evacuation of people begins once the water level touches 206 metres.

As a precaution, people living in low-lying areas near the river have been shifted to relief camps set up in Mayur Vihar Phase-1.
