A Patna court granted bail on Friday to independent Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, known as Pappu Yadav, in three pending cases registered at Kotwali and Buddha Colony police stations in Patna, involving charges of obstructing government work, organising protest demonstrations, and hindering official duties, paving the way for his likely release from Beur Central Jail later the same day after completion of formalities.
The bail order covers two cases from Kotwali police station dating to 2017 and 2019, linked to protest-related activities, and one from Buddha Colony police station concerning obstruction of police duties during proceedings related to his earlier arrest.
Yadav's lawyer, Shivnandan Bharti, confirmed the development, stating that bail has now been granted in all cases for which the Patna Civil Court had taken his remand. "With bail secured in these matters, he is likely to be released this evening," Bharti said.
Sources indicated that Yadav's actual release from Beur Jail would occur only after jail authorities complete the necessary paperwork and formalities.
The decision follows a series of legal proceedings since Yadav's arrest on February 6 (or late Friday prior week) from his residence in Patna under a warrant tied to a 1995 forgery case under IPC Section 467. He was initially hospitalised at Patna Medical College and Hospital due to health issues before being shifted to judicial custody.

On Tuesday, February 10, an MP-MLA court had already granted him bail in that 31-year-old forgery and fraud case registered at Gardanibagh police station, but he remained incarcerated due to the outstanding cases at Kotwali and Buddha Colony.
Yadav's supporters celebrated the Friday bail order as a victory for justice, with scenes of excitement outside the court and among his political base in Purnea and Patna. The development has intensified political discourse in Bihar, where Yadav, an outspoken independent MP, has frequently criticised government policies.
His arrest and prolonged detention drew attention from opposition leaders, including Congress's Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who linked it to his vocal stance in Parliament on issues such as the death of a Patna NEET aspirant and broader public grievances.
Yadav, representing Purnea in the Lok Sabha as an independent, has a history of activism and protest politics. The bail in these protest-linked cases removes key legal hurdles, potentially allowing him greater freedom to engage in parliamentary and constituency activities ahead of future political developments.
