A Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports undertook a detailed study visit to Arunachal Pradesh, reviewing key sectors including education, sports and youth affairs during engagements held in the state capital.
The delegation, led by senior Congress leader and member of Rajya Sabha, Digvijay Singh, is visiting the state along with nine other members as part of its ongoing parliamentary oversight exercise.
The programme began with a visit to the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) under the Sports Authority of India at the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy in Chimpu. Members reviewed sports infrastructure, training facilities and athlete support systems designed to nurture talent in the region.
Officials briefed the committee on ongoing initiatives, performance benchmarks and constraints in expanding high-performance sports infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh.
Later in the day, the committee held a comprehensive meeting with representatives from departments and institutions linked to education, youth affairs, sports and allied social sectors.

Participants included officials from the Department of Sports (Government of India) and the Department of Sports (Government of Arunachal Pradesh), along with representatives from public sector undertakings such as NHPC, NEEPCO and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam.
Academic and administrative stakeholders, including Rajiv Gandhi University, as well as departments of Higher and Technical Education, Research and Cultural Affairs, also participated in the discussions.
The meeting, held at the Donyi Polo International Hotel in Itanagar, focused on evaluating the implementation of existing programmes, identifying infrastructure and resource gaps, and exploring opportunities to strengthen education systems and youth development initiatives in the state.
The delegation concluded its visit with a trip to Ziro Valley, where members took note of the region’s scenic landscape and cultural richness.
The committee observed that such locations hold significant potential for tourism development and could be leveraged to create employment opportunities and engage youth in sustainable economic activities.
