A semblance of normalcy returned to the region on Tuesday as the Ambala-Chandigarh national highway, shut for three weeks due to farmer protests, reopened for single-lane traffic.

However, the Haryana-Punjab border near Shambhu remains barricaded, underlining the ongoing standoff between farmers and authorities.

The partial reopening, initiated late Monday night near Sadopur, comes as a welcome relief for commuters who faced significant delays and detours during the closure.

However, tensions remain high as farmers continue their protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points.

Their "Delhi Chalo" march, launched on February 13, was thwarted by security personnel, leading to clashes at both locations.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) continue to spearhead the protest, demanding a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, a key issue that remains unresolved.

While the partial reopening of the highway offers some solution, the situation at the borders remains uncertain. Negotiations between the government and farmer unions continue, with the hope of reaching a mutually agreeable solution in the near future.
