Nothing brings together estranged families like political interests, which are also a significant cause for relationships to drift. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) chief, Ajit Pawar, confirmed on Sunday an alliance between his party and the NCP (SP), led by his uncle Sharad Pawar, for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation polls.
“For the sake of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections, the ‘clock’ and the ‘tutari’ (trumpet) have united. The parivar has come together,” he said whilst in Pimpri-Chinchwad to campaign for the January 15 elections.
The PCMC is the first civic body in Maharashtra where both sides have formally decided to go to the polls together after the party split.
“While facing these civic elections, NCP and NCP (SP) are going ahead together. Accordingly, this family has begun to reunite,” he said.
Although Pawar did not disclose how many seats each faction would contest, he urged party workers to work hard and refrain from making any controversial comments during rallies.
“We are the ones who work for development. We will edge out those who tried to put this municipal corporation in debt,” he said, adding, “We have shown how development was carried out here. Those who pushed Pimpri-Chinchwad into debt – the time has come to put them aside.”

On candidate announcements, Pawar said they would wait to watch which candidates rival parties put forth, with just two days left for filing nominations.
Sources say the two parties are also in talks for a tie-up for the Pune Municipal Corporation polls, especially in the wake of the NCP (SP) not turning up for alliance with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies, Congress and Shiva Sena (UBT).
Earlier in the day, the Pawar family was in Baramati, where industrialist Gautam Adani inaugurated the Sharadchandra Pawar Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence.
Elections to 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune civic bodies, will be held on January 15, and votes will be counted the next day. The last date for filing nominations is December 30.
