Petitioners seek arrest of K'taka CM to probe MUDA scam

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his wife Parvathi. The couple's name has surfaced in the alleged MUDA scam.

In the ongoing Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case, petitioner Snehamayi Krishna has urged the Lokayukta Superintendent of Police to arrest Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

In a detailed 25-page petition submitted on Monday, Krishna raised several concerns. He accused Siddaramaiah of hiding crucial information in a recent High Court case related to the alleged MUDA scam.

After submitting the petition, Krishna spoke to the media. He claimed to have provided significant evidence to the Lokayukta, which he believes supports the need for Siddaramaiah's arrest. Krishna mentioned that Siddaramaiah’s wife, BM Parvathi, had made alterations to a letter sent to the MUDA commissioner, which he argued had not been disclosed to the court.

Moreover, Lokayukta officials investigating the MUDA scam involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others are expected to gather evidence from Siddaramaiah and his wife, Parvathi, soon.

Over the past two weeks, they have examined documents and taken statements from key individuals, including landowner Devaraju J and Siddaramaiah's brother-in-law, BM Mallikarjuna Swamy.

However, the officials have indicated that they do not plan to question the Chief Minister immediately, as they need to verify information from others involved in the alleged scam first

The High Court had previously dismissed Siddaramaiah's plea challenging the Governor’s approval for his prosecution on September 24. Krishna stated that he felt threatened by the Chief Minister’s provocative speeches, especially during the recent Mysuru Dasara festival. He called for immediate action to ensure the safety of himself and his family.

Krishna also raised concerns about the activities of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesman M. Lakshmana, who he alleged has been visiting the Lokayukta office frequently. He urged the Lokayukta to install CCTV cameras in its Mysuru office to ensure transparency in the investigation.

The Lokayukta Police are currently investigating the case, based on an FIR filed against Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathi, and two others on September 27. This case revolves around a land transaction where 3.16 acres in Kesare was reportedly gifted to Parvathi by her brother, Mallikarjuna Swamy. Parvathi later sought alternative land from MUDA without acquiring the original land properly. This led to her obtaining 14 sites in the Vijayanagar area.

The Lokayukta Police formed four special teams on September 28 to probe this matter. They inspected the land in Kesare and the alternative sites in Vijayanagar with the petitioner present. Investigations into the roles of the other accused have been ongoing, with some questioned on October 10.

Additionally, an Enforcement Case Information Report was filed against Siddaramaiah and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act on September 30, following the Lokayukta FIR. Subsequently, Parvathi appealed to the MUDA commissioner to revoke the allocation of the 14 sites. The process for this revocation began on October 1 and was completed by October 3.
