Panic gripped the Jharkhand capital, Ranchi, after unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled petrol bombs at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office late Tuesday night. While one of the improvised petrol bombs exploded inside the premises, another failed to detonate.
According to police, the incident occurred around 12.30 am when two youths allegedly arrived near the RSS office carrying petrol in a plastic container. CCTV footage reportedly captured the suspects filling bottles with petrol and throwing them towards the office compound before fleeing the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the petrol-filled bottles, believed to have been made using sauce bottles, were thrown towards the premises but fell near the boundary wall. One of the bottles exploded, while the second remained intact.
The incident triggered concern among local residents and RSS members. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Security in and around the area has since been heightened.
Senior BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth, and senior BJP leader C.P. Singh, visited the RSS office after the incident and took stock of the situation.
Ranchi City SP Paras Rana said police have initiated a detailed probe into the matter.
“Two persons appear to be involved in the incident. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and efforts are on to identify and apprehend the accused,” he said.
The police have also deployed multiple teams, including forensic experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), to gather evidence. Technical surveillance and electronic data analysis are also being used as part of the investigation.
Authorities are yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack. Police teams are conducting raids at suspected locations and investigating all possible angles to determine whether the act was intended to cause damage, create panic, or target the organisation specifically. No injuries have been reported in the incident, and police teams are probing the incident from all possible angles.
