On late Sunday night, three armed men allegedly shot and killed a petrol pump employee while injuring another at Kaler Mangat village in Amritsar’s Majitha.
The police have filed a case and suggested that it was a robbery attempt. However, SAD leader Bikram Majithia claimed the attack was intended to target Jodh Singh Samra, a prominent SAD leader who owns the petrol pump.
The victim was identified as Gautam Kumar, a migrant from Uttar Pradesh. The injured individual, Amit, was rushed to a hospital in Vallah for treatment. Gautam was shot in the chest and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while Amit sustained a gunshot wound to the face and is said to be in serious condition.
Tejinder Singh, co-owner of the petrol pump, explained that he had employed three men—Gautam, Amit, and Arpan—at the Bharat filling station in the village. Around 8:30 p.m. that evening, he was on his way to deliver food to his employees when he noticed a car stopping near the pump.
The three men, with their faces covered, approached the pump and demanded petrol for their bike, claiming it was Samra’s petrol pump. When his employees refused to serve them, the armed men opened fire on the staff. After the attack, they fled the scene.
The police have formed six teams to track down and apprehend the suspects, according to Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are following vital leads in their efforts to bring the culprits to justice.
