Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was lodged on Wednesday in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, challenging the appointment of Nayab Singh Saini as the new Chief Minister of Haryana. Saini at present is also BJP Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra.

Saini is currently serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) and has not resigned from his parliamentary position before being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana, and this action goes against the Constitution and the Representation Of People Act, 1951, the plea cites.

Saini was sworn in as the Haryana Chief Minister on March 12, after former CM ML Khattar and the entire cabinet resigned yesterday.

The plea further states, "The installation of the government of Haryana on 12.03.2024 is illegal and void".
