Police and rescue teams saved three women pilgrims from Maharashtra and their driver after their vehicle plunged into a 50-metre-deep gorge along the Kedarnath National Highway late on Saturday evening, officials said.
The vehicle reportedly lost control and fell into a ravine near the Jurani barrier stretch between Guptkashi and Gaurikund, officials added.
The incident was first reported by a traffic team. Soon after, personnel from Guptkashi police station, the Phata outpost and a traffic interceptor unit rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation.
Despite heavy rainfall and challenging terrain, the rescue teams carried out the operation and safely pulled out all four occupants, including the driver, from the damaged vehicle.
The rescued devotees were identified as Sushma, Sadhana and Lata, all residents of Maharashtra. All four injured persons were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.
