Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday said that the Char Dham Yatra is being regulated and temporarily halted at certain locations due to heavy rain and landslides in different parts of the state. He stressed that ensuring the safety of pilgrims remains the government's foremost concern.
Speaking to reporters, Dhami said several districts, including Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli, have received significant rainfall over the past few days. Rising river levels and landslide incidents in some areas have affected travel conditions, making it necessary to suspend the pilgrimage route at times depending on the situation.
The Chief Minister also said that the Kanwar Yatra is continuing without major issues. He added that the administration has put all required arrangements in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department, Vikas Tyagi, said the Ganga's water level at Haridwar is currently above the warning mark but remains below the danger level.
He explained that water levels in the upper reaches are still increasing, which could lead to a further rise in river discharge. However, he assured that the situation is being closely monitored and remains under control.
Tyagi said authorities are sharing regular updates with downstream areas to help them stay prepared. He added that flood management divisions, nodal officers and district-level disaster response systems have been activated, and the government is ready to respond to any emergency if required.
