Speaking at the event, Vijay declared that his party was emerging as a major force in state politics, traditionally dominated by the Dravidian parties.

Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor attended the first-anniversary event of Tamil actor Vijay’s political party, Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on the outskirts of Chennai on Wednesday.

Kishor recently joined as an advisor for the party ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections next year.

Speaking at the event, Vijay declared that his party was emerging as a major force in state politics, traditionally dominated by the Dravidian parties. He asserted that TVK would create history in the 2026 elections, drawing parallels with the political shifts in 1967 and 1977. The actor-turned-politician reaffirmed his commitment to ideology, stating that his party would not compromise on its principles.

Amid growing speculation about a possible alliance with the opposition AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), Vijay maintained a neutral stance. He remarked that politics is unpredictable, with no permanent allies or adversaries. "This is politics at a different level. We never know when someone will support or oppose us. That is why it is often said there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics," he said.

Vijay, who is set to leave acting after his upcoming film Jana Nayagan, also criticised the ongoing conflict between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the Centre over the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He compared the dispute to a quarrel between kindergarten students, saying, "Funds for education have been halted. This is like an LKG-UKG fight. The Centre’s duty is to allocate funds, while the state’s duty is to secure them as a right. Amid these major issues, both the BJP and DMK are engaged in a hashtag war."

Prashant Kishor’s involvement with TVK comes after his recent meeting with Vijay at the actor’s residence. The move has sparked political discussions, particularly as Kishor had previously worked with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as a strategist during its successful 2021 election campaign.

However, the ruling party and its allies downplayed his association with TVK. DMK leader Kanimozhi stated that the party relies solely on its workers and remains focused on following the guidance of Chief Minister M K Stalin. CPI(M) leader K Balakrishnan also dismissed the significance of Vijay’s cinematic popularity, arguing that Tamil Nadu voters are politically aware and that Kishor’s strategy alone would not be enough to sway public support if it did not already exist.

As the Tamil Nadu assembly elections draw closer, TVK’s political trajectory under Vijay’s leadership and Kishor’s strategic input will be closely watched.
