People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) area commander Lambu was killed during a fierce encounter with a specialised team from West Singhbhum police in Jharkhand on Saturday.
The operation unfolded in the dense forests near Tomrong village, under the jurisdiction of the Tebo police station in West Singhbhum district.
Acting on reliable intelligence, the police launched a meticulously planned operation to capture Lambu, who was implicated in numerous cases of extortion, murder, and other criminal activities in the region. The team, composed of district police and special task force personnel, strategically moved to intercept Lambu and his group.
The confrontation began when the police approached a suspected hideout in the jungle, and Lambu’s group opened fire. The police retaliated, leading to an intense gunfight lasting nearly an hour.
Lambu sustained fatal injuries during the exchange, while his associates managed to flee deeper into the forest. A manhunt is currently underway to track them down.
Following the operation, the police recovered a significant stockpile of arms and ammunition, including advanced firearms, homemade weapons, and several rounds of ammunition. Documents and other materials retrieved from the site are expected to shed light on the PLFI’s activities and network.
Officials commended the courage and efficiency of the police team, noting that this operation struck a major blow to the PLFI. “Lambu’s death is a considerable success. He was a notorious figure responsible for instilling fear and disrupting peace in the area,” a police official said.
Lambu, whose real identity is yet to be verified, was a prominent leader in the PLFI’s ranks, known for masterminding numerous crimes, including the killings of security personnel and businessmen who refused to pay extortion demands. His influence spanned multiple districts, making him one of Jharkhand’s most wanted criminals.
For years, residents of Tomrong and nearby villages endured the PLFI’s dominance, facing threats and coercion from Lambu and his group. His death brings hope for respite, though fears of retaliation by the PLFI persist.
“This operation highlights the need for continuous vigilance and proactive measures to dismantle the PLFI’s operations. The group may attempt to reorganise or retaliate, so sustained efforts are crucial,” a senior police official stated.
The police have intensified follow-up operations in the region, aiming to apprehend Lambu’s associates and eliminate any remaining PLFI strongholds.
