Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over a tragic bus accident in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, which claimed eight lives and injured several others. He offered condolences to the families of those who died and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon.”
He also announced financial assistance—Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured—from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The accident took place on Thursday morning near the Maseran area of Sarkaghat sub-division when an HRTC bus traveling from Sarkaghat to Durgapur fell into a gorge. The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sarkaghat, while those with serious injuries were referred to AIIMS Bilaspur for further treatment.
Soon after the incident, Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also expressed grief and ordered the local administration to provide ex gratia support and ensure the best possible care for the injured.
Initial reports suggest that the accident may have occurred due to a road cave-in caused by heavy rainfall. Rescue teams and officials quickly reached the spot, and an investigation is underway to find the exact cause of the accident.
