Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday flagged off the inaugural flight service from Hisar to Ayodhya and laid the foundation stone of a new terminal building at the Maharaja Agrasen Airport.
The move comes as part of a broader set of development initiatives worth Rs 10,000 crore in Haryana, launched to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar.
In keeping with his vision to enhance regional connectivity and ensure safe, affordable and accessible air travel for all, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the new terminal, which is estimated to cost over Rs 410 crore.
The project includes a state-of-the-art passenger terminal, a dedicated cargo terminal and an Air Traffic Control (ATC) building. According to officials, the infrastructure is expected to be completed within two years.
Scheduled flights from Hisar to Ayodhya will operate twice a week, while connections to Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Chandigarh are also in the pipeline, with three flights a week planned for each route. A government statement described the flight initiative as “a significant leap in Haryana's aviation connectivity.”
The Prime Minister’s visit to Haryana coincided with several other announcements, part of a developmental push in honour of Dr Ambedkar, an iconic figure credited for championing Dalit rights and drafting the Constitution of India.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and other senior ministers of the state cabinet were present at the Hisar airport event.
