Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects worth ₹14,260 crore in Chhattisgarh as the state marked its 25th anniversary.
Addressing a gathering in Raipur during the Chhattisgarh Rajat Mahotsav, the PM said the initiatives reflected the government’s goal of building a modern and self-reliant state. He said Chhattisgarh had evolved over 25 years from a mineral-led economy into a growing industrial hub.
Among the major projects for which Modi laid the foundation stone was the Pathalgaon–Kunkuri to Chhattisgarh–Jharkhand Border Greenfield Highway, a four-lane corridor to be built under the Bharatmala Pariyojana at a cost of about ₹3,150 crore. The project is expected to improve connectivity between central and eastern India by linking coal mines, industrial clusters and steel plants across Korba, Raigarh, Jashpur, Ranchi and Jamshedpur.
Modi also launched upgrades to NH-130D and widening works on NH-130C, aimed at improving access in remote tribal districts like Bastar and Narayanpur. He said village road networks in the state had now expanded to 40,000 kilometres.
In the power sector, Modi inaugurated the Inter-Regional Eastern–Western Grid Interconnection Project, enhancing power transfer capacity by 1,600 MW. Projects worth over ₹3,750 crore were unveiled to strengthen transmission and distribution, along with nine new substations which would benefit about 15 lakh people. Additional substations and transmission works worth ₹1,415 crore were announced for Kanker and Balodabazar-Bhatapara.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated HPCL’s ₹460-crore Petroleum Oil Depot in Raipur and dedicated the 489-km Nagpur–Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline, which connects 11 districts of Chhattisgarh to the National Gas Grid. Besides, he laid foundations for two Smart Industrial Areas and a Pharmaceutical Park in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar.
The PM also announced five new government medical colleges and a Government Ayurveda College in Bilaspur, besides participating in the Griha Pravesh of 3.51 lakh completed houses under the PM Aawas Yojana-Gramin. Reflecting on the state’s journey, he said “a new sun is rising” for Chhattisgarh’s next 25 years.
