Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday officially inaugurated the long-awaited Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro, marking a significant expansion of the city’s public transportation network. The Prime Minister also flagged off the Vande Bharat Express train connecting Bengaluru and Belagavi, along with two other Vande Bharat Express trains connecting Amritsar with Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Ajni (Nagpur) with Pune, which were launched virtually.

Bengaluru Metro yellow line and foundation stone for Phase 3

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi took a metro ride on the newly inaugurated Yellow Line, traveling to the Electronic City station. Following the ride, he proceeded to the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bengaluru. At this venue, the Prime Minister formally inaugurated the Yellow Line, which runs from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, and laid the foundation stone for the ambitious Phase 3 of the Bengaluru Metro. He concluded his visit with a public address.

A crucial component of Bangalore Metro Phase-2, the Yellow Line is more than 19 kilometres long and has 16 stations. An estimated Rs 7,160 crore was spent on the project's construction. Bengaluru's operational metro network now stretches over 96 kilometres with the opening of this new line, which is anticipated to greatly reduce traffic in some of the city's busiest locations, such as Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction.

Additionally, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Metro Phase 3, also known as the Orange Line. This project, estimated to cost Rs 15,611 crore, will add more than 44 kilometers to the network and include 31 elevated stations. The Orange Line will be constructed in two sections: a 12.5 km line from Hosahalli to Kadabagere and a 32.15 km line from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura.

By linking important residential, commercial, industrial, and educational centres, this expansion seeks to satisfy the city's expanding transportation needs. At 2:45 pm, the Prime Minister flew back to Delhi from HAL Airport after the day's events.
