Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the people of Assam on Wednesday, marking the celebration of Magh Bihu, describing the festival as a symbol of joy, warmth and unity.
In a letter written in both Assamese and English, Modi highlighted the essence of Magh Bihu as a time for contentment and gratitude. “Warmest greetings to you and your family on the joyous occasion of Magh Bihu. Embodying the best of Assamese culture, this beautiful festival is indeed an occasion of joy, warmth and brotherhood,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that Magh Bihu marks the end of the harvest season and offers an opportunity to appreciate the efforts of those who enrich lives, particularly farmers. “It also encourages generosity and care among us. May this Magh Bihu bring peace, good health and happiness in everyone's lives. I wish that the year ahead is filled with prosperity and success,” Modi added.

Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on January 17 for a multi-faceted itinerary blending culture, infrastructure and connectivity projects. He is expected to arrive in Guwahati in the evening and attend a grand Bagurumba dance performance at Sarusajai Stadium, featuring between 8,000 and 10,000 artistes.
After an overnight stay at State Guest House No. 1, the Prime Minister will travel to Kaliabor in Nagaon district to address a public rally at Mouchanda field. A key highlight of the visit will be the foundation-laying of a 34.5-km elevated corridor connecting Kaliabor to Bokakhat, passing through Kaziranga National Park.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate two new train services from Kaliabor — one connecting Dibrugarh and Gomti, and another linking Guwahati and Rohtak. “Effectively, Assam will be getting three new train services in two days,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said during a press briefing after a Cabinet meeting in Guwahati on January 9.
