As the doors of Kedarnath Temple opened to devotees, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on the spiritual importance of the occasion and extended his greetings to pilgrims beginning the sacred journey.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister welcomed devotees and conveyed his best wishes. He described Kedarnath Dham and the Char Dham Yatra as a divine celebration that reflects India’s faith, unity and deep cultural traditions.
“On the sacred land of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, the doors of Shri Kedarnath Dham have opened with full rituals and devotion. The journey to Kedarnath and the Char Dham represents our faith, unity and timeless traditions. Such pilgrimages allow us to experience India’s eternal culture,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister also shared that he had written a letter to devotees visiting Uttarakhand for the pilgrimage. He prayed that Baba Kedar bless all pilgrims and make their journey safe and spiritually fulfilling, ending his message with chants of “Har Har Mahadev.”
In his letter, Modi highlighted the spiritual importance of the Char Dham pilgrimage — Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri — located amidst the Himalayas and sacred rivers that have been revered by devotees for centuries.
"Badrinath and Kedarnath are not just pilgrimage sites; they are symbols of our ancient culture and traditions. The temples of Badrinath and Kedarnath, located in the Himalayas, are renowned for their spiritual significance and natural beauty. These places have been revered as sacred by devotees for centuries.
The Char Dham Yatra, which includes Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, is a sacred pilgrimage for Hindus. These four dhams are not only centres of faith but also storehouses of our rich cultural and spiritual heritage. The serene atmosphere of these places, the majestic Himalayas, and the sacred rivers provide a unique spiritual experience to the devotees,” the PM wrote in the letter.
The Prime Minister also spoke about ongoing development works in Uttarakhand aimed at preserving spiritual heritage while improving facilities for pilgrims. These efforts include infrastructure development, expanded temple seating, improved pathways, clean drinking water, sanitation systems, medical support and strengthened security arrangements.
He said the government’s goal is to protect the sanctity of the Char Dham while making the pilgrimage safer, more accessible and more comfortable. Reconstruction work at Kedarnath and development projects at Badrinath are progressing rapidly as part of this vision.
Listing key improvements, Modi mentioned increased seating capacity at the temple to accommodate more devotees, better road connectivity and newly constructed walking paths and ramps to ease access for pilgrims. He added that clean drinking water points, additional public toilets, emergency medical services, first-aid centres and healthcare facilities have been established along the pilgrimage route to support devotees during the journey.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the creation of resting shelters along the route, information centres and guide services to help pilgrims navigate the Yatra smoothly. Enhanced lighting, improved security deployment and regular cleanliness drives have also been introduced to maintain safety and sanctity.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Modi said these facilities represent continued efforts to make the pilgrimage comfortable and memorable for devotees. He thanked everyone involved in the development work and warmly welcomed pilgrims to the sacred abode of Baba Kedar.
