Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a road show in the temple town of Udupi. Modi landed at the Mangaluru Airport and proceeded to Udupi by a special helicopter.
His visit was primarily to participate in the "Laksha Geeta Pathana" (also referred to as Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana), a historic mass recitation in which more than one lakh devotees were scheduled to chant verses from the Bhagavad Gita in unison.
Standing on the running board of his vehicle, the Prime Minister waved warmly at the enthusiastic crowds, who showered his convoy with flower petals. Modi reciprocated by throwing flowers back at the people waiting on either side of the road.
The procession route has been draped in saffron flags, buntings and barricades, creating a vibrant scene across the coastal temple town, including Yakshagana and artistes dressed as Lord Krishna.
Reports suggest that authorities have put in place one of the largest security arrangements the district has ever seen. Nearly 3,000 police personnel have been deployed, including ten SPs, 27 DSPs, 49 inspectors, 127 sub-inspectors, 232 assistant SIs, 1,608 constables, and 39 women staff.
