Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the three-day Combined Commanders' Conference (CCC) on Monday at the Indian Army's Eastern Command headquarters, Vijay Durg, formerly known as Fort William, in Kolkata. After this, he also unveiled the “Indian Armed Forces Vision 2047” document, which charts the path for a future-ready Indian Armed Forces, the statement said.
PM Modi lauded the Indian Armed Forces for their exemplary role in Operation Sindoor and highlighted their vital contribution towards nation-building, a defence statement said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also attended the crucial meeting, the first of its kind since 'Operation Sindoor'. According to a defence official, this operation was a targeted and punitive campaign designed to dismantle terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and deeper inside Pakistan. It showcased a calibrated, tri-services response that embodied precision, professionalism, and purpose.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and all three chiefs of the Indian armed forces were also among the participants in the conference.
"Deliberations are being held on a wide range of strategic issues— including force modernisation, jointness, integration and enhancing operational readiness for multi-domain warfare," the statement from the Ministry of Defence said.
The CCC, a biennial event, is the apex brainstorming forum of the armed forces, bringing together the nation's top civil and military leadership to exchange views and discuss strategic, institutional and operational priorities, with interactive sessions involving officers of various ranks.
The theme for this year's 16th edition is 'Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future', with a particular emphasis on reforms, transformation, and the operational readiness of the armed forces. The defence official added that "the focus of the conference reflects the armed forces’ commitment to institutional reforms, deeper integration and technological modernisation, while sustaining a high level of multi-domain operational readiness."
This marks the Prime Minister's fourth visit to West Bengal in the last five months and his second within a single month. Modi arrived in Kolkata on Sunday evening from Assam and is scheduled to leave the city this afternoon for Purnea in Bihar. He reached Vijay Durg around 9:30 am from the Raj Bhavan, where he had spent the night.
The last Combined Commanders' Conference was held 2023 in Bhopal.
