Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹33,700 crore in Chhattisgarh, marking his first visit to the state after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The event took place in Mohbhattha village, Bilaspur district, where he launched various initiatives spanning infrastructure, energy, railways, and education.
As part of the ceremony, Modi flagged off the Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train service on the Abhanpur-Raipur route via Mandir Hasaud. He also distributed symbolic house keys to three beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), reinforcing the government's commitment to affordable housing.
In the energy sector, Modi laid the foundation stone for NTPC’s Sipat Super Thermal Power Project Stage-III (1x800MW) in Bilaspur, a ₹9,790 crore project utilising advanced Ultra-Supercritical Technology for enhanced power generation efficiency.
Additionally, he initiated the commissioning of Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited's (CSPGCL) first Super Critical Thermal Power Project (2X660MW), valued at ₹15,800 crore. He also dedicated three power transmission projects worth over ₹560 crore under the Western Region Expansion Scheme (WRES), strengthening electricity distribution in the region.
In the oil and gas sector, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd's City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Korea, Surajpur, Balrampur, and Surguja districts.
The ₹1,285 crore initiative includes over 200 km of high-pressure pipeline, 800 km of MDPE pipeline, and multiple CNG dispensing outlets. Additionally, he initiated Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd's (HPCL) ₹2,210 crore Visakh-Raipur Pipeline (VRPL) Project, a 540 km multiproduct pipeline with a capacity exceeding 3 million metric tonnes per annum.
Railway infrastructure also saw significant advancements, with Modi laying the foundation for seven railway projects totaling 108 km and inaugurating three railway projects of ₹2,690 crore, covering 111 km.
He further announced the 100% electrification of the Indian Railways network in Chhattisgarh, marking a major milestone in sustainable transportation.
In the road infrastructure sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated the upgraded Jhalmala to Sherpar section of NH-930 (37 km) and the Ambikapur-Pathalgaon section of NH-43 (75 km), both expanded to two lanes with paved shoulders.
He also laid the foundation for the Kondagaon-Narayanpur section of NH-130D (47.5 km), upgrading it to a two-lane road with paved shoulders. These road projects, valued at over ₹1,270 crore, aim to enhance connectivity to tribal and industrial regions, fostering economic growth.
Furthering his focus on education, Modi dedicated two flagship educational initiatives to the nation—130 PM SHRI Schools across 29 districts and the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) in Raipur.
Under the PM Schools for Rising India scheme, 130 schools will receive upgrades, incorporating smart classrooms, modern laboratories, and well-equipped libraries to provide high-quality education.
These initiatives collectively underscore the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, energy security, and education, contributing to Chhattisgarh’s holistic growth.
